Prof. Prasanta Kumar Panda

Your Lot Is Not Ours

I asked the strongest of the barking dogs

In a frenzy to ward off

A small intruder of their lot:

What the hell you come from?

Why are you barring your teeth

at a little of your lot?

It sniffed me to gauge my knowledge,

Blinked in distrust and said:

You seem to be a sample of the learned lot

You must know why we are so.

I cast my mind’s eye at an index

To pick the pages of our evolution,

References are in bright print

These dogs have been with our lot all along.

Refugees, migrants and the likes of them

are our imbecile creations in every nation.

In assisting their masters to ward of their own lot

Spanning civilizations

Dogs among themselves

Practice their pet right and echo

Your lot is not ours

Even on occasions

It does not cost anything at all.
